Original Mixed Medium Painting of Fish rubbing OOAK. 16x20 Canvas.
Gyotaku. A beautiful art form from the Japanese fisherman of the 1800's. To back up their "Fish stories" the fishermen would roll their fish in ink and print it on rice paper they kept on board their boats.
They would then release their fish and take home a printed version of their bragging rights to their friends and family.
I did the exact same thing with John's Trigger fish. I then chose to take the second step as many gyotaku artists do and painted the fish for greater detail.
I also dipped ferns and various plant life into paint and pressed them on the canvas. I am thrilled with the results.
Enjoy my Gyotaku. I absolutely will do others. I feel connected to those Japanese fisherman in a spiritual way.....Arigato (thank you) Trudy Hylant
